Prysmian Group Insight
DOING BUSINESS
Prysmian Group has been
awarded a contract by the
Danish transmission grid
operator Energinet.dk for the
development of a HV cable
system for the underground
connection of the Horns Rev3
offshore wind farm to mainland
Denmark.
The
involves the supply of
a High Voltage Alternate Current
(HVAC) 245kV power cable
connection, comprising 45km land
cable route, Click-Fit™ network
components and commissioning
services to connect the Horns
Rev offshore wind farm from the
substation at the beach area to
the 400kV transmission station in
Endrup.
Prysmian Group has completed
operations for the construction and
execution of the submarine power
cable link that connects Phu Quoc
Island to the national power grid
in mainland Vietnam. The turnkey
project was awarded in May 2012
by Vietnamese utility Southern
Power Corporation under Vietnam
Electricity (EVNSPC), worth a total
of
67 million for the design, supply,
installation, and commissioning of
the submarine interconnection.
Situated 45km west of Ha Tien
town, Kien Giang province in
southern Vietnam, Phu Quoc Island
is home to some of the most
beautiful beaches in Vietnam. The

Prysmian Group showcased its
state-of-the-art technologies at
MEE 2014, the electrical industry’s
largest show in the Middle East, held
in Dubai earlier this year. The event
came at a very important time for
the Prysmian Group to reinforce
its strong presence in the Middle
East, a key area for the Company’s
expansion strategy.
The underground cables for Horns
Rev3 offshore wind farm connection
will be manufactured in the
Pikkala plant in Finland, one of the
Group’s centres of technological
and manufacturing excellence
for High Voltage cables. Project
completion is scheduled for the
end of 2015, with final takeover in
2016. Northern Europe represents
a strategic market for Prysmian,
with a number of projects currently
ongoing and already accomplished.
In this area, in particular, the
Group is deeply involved in the
development of offshore wind
farms for the exploitation of
energy from renewable sources.
Currently, the Group is also carrying
out the Danish section of the
role in the province’s 2020 socio-
economic development master
plan, aimed at making Phu Quoc
a special administrative zone by
the end of the decade, serving
as a national and international
center for high-end ecotourism and
entertainment. The Phu Quoc link
is the first submarine power cable
link installed by a utility company
in Vietnam and is South East Asia’s
longest undersea cable system.
It features some 56km of 3 x
630mm² 110kV copper, single wire
armored XLPE insulated submarine
cable manufactured in the Group’s
globally recognised technology
excellence centre during 2013.
