Prysmian Group Insight
DOING BUSINESS
Prysmian Group has been
awarded a
worth
approximately
30 million
by UAE-based construction
company Emirates Holding on
behalf of major offshore oil
and gas producer Abu Dhabi
Marine Operating Company
(ADMA-OPCO) for the design
and manufacture of submarine
cable links for the replacement
of power feeding systems to
Zakum offshore oil field, in Abu
Dhabi.
The Zakum oil field is the first
submarine electrification project
The Group is producing LSOH
armoured cables for installation
in the MOSE (Experimental
Electromechanical Module), a barrier
system being built off the shore of
Venice to protect the city and the
Lagoon from flooding. The contract
is with Comar (Costruzioni Mose
Arsenale), the main contractor
appointed by Consorzio Venezia
Nuova, the project’s ultimate
manager. The 150km of LSOH
armoured cables will be produced at
the Giovinazzo plant in Italy and will
form part of the electric power and
control cables supplied for the gates
at the mouths of the inlets.
planned by ADMA-OPCO and
will be the benchmark for future
projects aimed at developing and
implementing power distribution
and transmission networks among
owned offshore oil fields. It includes
the design and supply of about
200km of XLPE (Cross-Linked
Polyethylene) insulated Medium
Voltage submarine cables for the
distribution of energy to oil towers
and platforms, plus accessories and
network components.
The project will be implemented by
the Group’s offices in the UAE, using
production from Pikkala in Finland,

To connect oil platforms for the Zakum offshore oil field
Prysmian Group China has recently
developed and is ready to launch
a new fire resistant cable solution,
called MAXSAFE, which aims to
replace the traditional Mineral-
Insulated Copper-Clad (MICC)
cable, a variety of electrical cable
made from copper conductors
inside a copper sheath, insulated by
inorganic magnesium oxide powder.
Although MICC cable is relatively
new to the Chinese market, it is not
as flexible and easy-to-install as
MAXSAFE. The new cable has been
designed in the Suzhou plant. Max
Bian, Prysmian E&I Commercial
Director for China, points out that
Fire resistant solution for China
with the first 70km batch delivery in
November 2014 and final delivery
due by mid-2015. The project
reaffirms Prysmian’s leadership in
the strategic region of the Middle
East, where the Group can call on
a number of projects completed
or currently ongoing, including the
Barzan oil field submarine power
interconnection in Qatar, the first-
ever submarine power transmission
link serving Doha, the GCC Saudi-
Bahrain submarine interconnection
and the 400kV power transmission
system for TRANSCO connecting the
Bahia and Saadiyat Grid Stations in
Abu Dhabi.
people in China are now learning
what safety is and how best it
improves the quality of their lives:
