GLOBAL SCENARIO
Most successful applications that
provide easier handling and more
rapid access to the fibres, resulting
in dramatically reduced installation
time, are equipped with Prysmian

. In addition the
Prysmian Group has entered the
world of telco service suppliers for
the first time, following the award
of a contract to supply and install
300 cabinets, complete with fibre
optic cables and terminations, for
SingTel’s data centre in Singapore.
The data centre will serve banks
and companies seeking cloud data
storage solutions. The cabinet
system designed by Prysmian
surprised the market and our main
competitor for this project, Panduit,
an important global manufacturer of
physical infrastructure solutions.
QR codes, barcodes optically
readable using a smartphone, are
a smart way of interacting with
customers in order to promote
information about Prysmian Group’s
businesses and products. Norway
offers an example of best practice in
the introduction of these QR codes
for the Group’s activities, having
introduced them since 2012 on
drum labels for a selected range of
Telecom Solutions products. The
purpose is to provide information,
such as data sheets, product
technical details and optical/physical
properties. By scanning the barcode,
clients can download the information
onto smartphones and share it.
Prysmian Group has been awarded
a
2.3 million contract to supply
self-supporting aerial copper
telephone cables to ETHIO Telecom,
an Ethiopian telephone operator.
Ethiopia, along with other African
countries, represents a key market
for Prysmian, because its rapid
growth is demanding a vast quantity
of telecom products. The Turkish
plant in Mudanya, the Group’s centre
of excellence for the production of
copper telecom cables, is to deliver
the products later this year.
innovative Flextube

cable design
offers significant added value to
installers and operators alike, whilst
delivering a future-proof network.
Currently there is wide-scale
adoption of this technology across
A full set of products and applications
Europe with significant new builds
in Latin America and Oceania.
In 2013, Prysmian completed
its range of Multioperator Box
systems, becoming the undisputed
leader in this profitable segment
of the access network. The boxes,
developed by the R&D labs in Milan
and Bishopstoke, feature a finely
engineered design to fit all possible
optical cable technologies such as
FlexTube, standard loose tube and
preconnectorised riser cables.
Other products coming to life are
the ODF Flex for Telecom Italia,
to enable the Italian operator to
develop its FTTC network. Prysmian
is also prioritising the development
of a product with high in-house
content, which allows outsourcing
shares to be reduced. This has
boosted production efficiency in UK,
where this product is manufactured,
as well as growing profitability for
the Group.
