DEFORESTATION

Prysmian uses mainly wooden packaging to deliver its products to customers. The Group is committed to engage as much as possible with vendors that have a responsible approach toward forest preservation through careful selection of the partners which are delivering wooden products, mainly drums.

As a result of such commitment, more than 60% of the group expenditure on wooden and plywood drums is coming from vendors which declared to hold or to procure timber sourced from companies holding forestry certificate issued by recognized certification bodies (PFEC, FSC, SFI, Canadian Wood Pallet certification program, Timber Trade Federation).

The group seeks, where possible, for highest level of design standardization so to ease and foster wood packaging usability. This is done by engaging also other industry players and pushing as much as possible for drum re-usage. An example of this practice is the establishment of “k-drum standard” (through Selcable) in Scandinavia and the co-ownership of KABELTROMMEL GmbH & Co. KG the company managing the biggest rental system in Germany.

In the recent years Prysmian affiliates have also directly contributed to forest restoration initiatives in different areas of the world:

  • Direct plantation of trees in various locations
  • Financing of trees plantation through the platform Treedom
  • Active participation to tree planning activities in Philippines and Colombia
