The New Ultra-Compact, Flexible Ribbon Technology will be debuted in North America at the upcoming 2018 ISE Expo in Denver, CO

New FlexRibbon™ products can reach 3456 optical fiber to offer increased functionality to data centers nationwide

Prysmian Group North America, a world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industries, recently announced the rollout of two enhancements to its line of FlexRibbon™ products. This new line of products, which feature MassLink™ with FlexRibbon™ Technology and will support large-scale data centers operated by major companies across the U.S., will be debuted in North America at the upcoming 2018 ISE Expo in Denver, CO.

We are thrilled to rollout these new enhancements to our FlexRibbon line in anticipation of Prysmian expanding into new markets,” said Massimo Battaini, CEO for Prysmian Group North America. “As the demand for more powerful, higher-density cables continues to increase, this latest offering will be a key asset for large companies to navigate underground duct networks.

Designed to maximize fiber density and duct space utilization, Prysmian’s MassLink  with FlexRibbon  Technology products compact the maximum fiber count into the smallest cable possible by using extremely flexible fiber ribbons that can either be rolled up for high packing densities or laid flat for ribbon splicing. The new 1728 and 3456 fiber count FlexRibbon products feature an ultra-compact outside plant cable design that contains bend insensitive fibers, small enough to fit into a 1.25” and 1.50” duct, respectively.

We began development of our FlexRibbon™ Technology product line to meet the needs of customers here in North America with hyperscale and colocation data centers that require ultra-compact design and efficient installation,” said Stephen Szymanski, Vice President of Telecom for Prysmian Group North America. “We have continued to heavily invest in the R&D of FlexRibbon technology, employing the most advanced equipment, which has led to the development of these new FlexRibbon product offerings.

The significantly smaller diameter and lighter weight cables have superior kink resistance and increased flexibility, which allows for easier installation and the use of smaller ducts. In the case of the 1728 fiber design, there is a 21 percent smaller diameter (38 percent volume reduction) over traditional flat ribbon designs. And while the new FlexRibbon products provide high packing density, they also feature 200 and 250-micron fiber ribbons that still provide the advantages of mass fusion splicing.

With this latest product enhancement, Prysmian Group is reaffirming its commitment to investing in its optical fiber and cable capacities to respond to the evolving needs of the market and support its customers in developing new, reliable and efficient broadband networks.

Join us for the introduction of these new products at the upcoming 2018 ISE Expo. Held from August 14-16 in Denver, CO, the ISE Expo is the ICT industry’s premier educational event for wireline and wireless network evolution.
