Prysmian supports the development of high speed network in Singapore

Separate contracts awarded by NetLink Trust

Milan, 17 May 2016 - Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, has been chosen to support the development of the nationwide broadband network in Singapore.

The Group has been awarded a new contract from NetLink Trust (NLT) worth around S$ 15 million (almost € 10 million) for the supply of optical fibre cables to NLT.

“This important award cements our leading position as a valued partner for the telecom sector in the region”, said Toni Bosch, Vice President Telecom Solutions at Prysmian Group. “Today, most service providers’ broadband network in Singapore supports connection speeds of more than 100Mbps and even up to 10Gbps. NLT is the catalyst that brings about this exciting change through the extensive use of a comprehensive and reliable optical fibre network technology. This has enabled Singapore to become one of the most well-connected smart nations in the world.”

NLT builds, manages and operates the national fibre network infrastructure, which is the foundation of Singapores Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network (Next Gen NBN). Powered by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), this project is under the Intelligent Nation 2015 (iN2015) masterplan which seeks to transform Singapore into an intelligent nation and global city. The Next Gen NBN is capable of delivering speeds of 1Gbps and above to all homes, offices and schools; offering pervasive connectivity around Singapore.

“It is through our capabilities as a global fibre and optical cables manufacturer, as well as having a strong and dedicated local presence in the region which is able to service our local customers well, that we were able to secure this success story in Singapore”, states Ronald Wee, Commercial Director Telecom ASEAN at Prysmian Group.

The contract from NLT consists of up to 10,000km of optical fibre cables to be installed in Singapore for the period of 2016~2018, which includes underground, flame retardant and ribbon types utilising G652D and G657 fibres.
