Prysmian Group publishes its 2012 Sustainability Report, the first to be subject to certification

Application level C+ reached for the first time under the global reporting initiative guidelines

Milan, 05 06 2013. Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cables and systems industry, has published its 2012 Sustainability Report, now in its third edition and the first to have been subject to a limited audit by an independent third party, Deloitte.

For the first time, the report reached application level C+ under the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI, version GRI/G3.1), a global leader in sustainability reporting. These results confirmed the progress achieved and the Group's increasing sensitivity to the issues of business ethics and corporate social responsibility.

From the standpoint of financial responsibility, in consideration of the Prysmian Group's nature as a public company and with the aim of ensuring transparent and thorough communication of company results, relations with the financial market were especially intense, with over 400 one-to-one and group meetings held at the Company's offices, road shows in major financial markets in Europe, North America and Asia and participation in a number of conferences organised by leading international brokers.

Turning to product responsibility, in both the energy cabling and telecommunications sector Prysmian has developed a number of innovative projects aimed at providing efficient, environmentally sustainable products and solutions. Among these were environmental impact studies on P-Laser cables according to the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach, which, through an analysis of the composition of the materials used and how they are to be disposed of at the end of their lives, indicated estimated reductions of greenhouse gas emissions (-30%), fossil resource consumption (-40%) and water use (-70/80%) compared to traditional cable manufacturing techniques.

In the area of social responsibility, Prysmian has focused on innovative management of its human resources, investing in managerial and technical training, inclusion of young people in the workforce and the development of talent. Among the top large Italian companies, the Group has created its international managerial and professional training school, the Prysmian Group Academy, in partnership with SDA Bocconi, involving approximately 200 employees in 2012, with plans to include another 500 individuals in the programme in 2013.

The Prysmian Group's commitment to environmental responsibility is proved by initiatives aimed at reducing the impact of its production processes on the environment. HSE improvement targets have been set for the 2012-2014 period, relating to initiatives and projects such as participation in the Carbon Disclosure Project, Life Cycle Assessment studies and the gradual increase in the number of facilities certified according to the ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards.
