TLC Executive Vice President Vanhille: “We are focused on supporting operators in the development of modern broadband telecom networks”

Milan, Italy   -   03/06/2013 - 12:00 AM

Prysmian Group will play a leading role at this week’s ANGA COM exhibition in Cologne, Germany – June 4th to 6th.  ANGA COM Exhibition and Congress for Broadband, Cable and Satellite has been Europe's leading business platform for broadband operators and content providers for more than 10 years.

“Thanks to the enhanced product portfolio available after the merger of Prysmian and Draka, Prysmian Group can now leverage on a complete product range and a wealth of experience across the entire Telecoms sector” says Philippe Vanhille, the newly appointed Executive Vice President, Business Telecom at Prysmian Group. “As one of the major players in the telecom cable industry, Prysmian is particularly focused in providing innovative technological solutions for the development of broadband telecoms networks”.

The company will showcase its wide range of products for Fibre to the Home and MultiMedia Solutions on its booth H35, hall 10.2. MultiMedia Solutions will show its new UCHOME range addressing the needs of modern automated buildings with its new highlight the UCHOME Cat. 7 cable. This cable has been perfected for residential IP services such as SAT>IP.

40% smaller and 47% lighter than a standard Cat.7 cable, this cable makes investments into the entertainment infrastructure affordable and sustainable. The halogen-free cable comes in fully recyclable cardboard packaging which along with the reduced material employed delivers an environmentally friendly solution. Visitors to the booth can enjoy the TV live transmission demo, which demonstrates why screening of cables is essential for digital systems.

For the Groups’ FTTH portfolio, the display will be focused around Prysmian Group’s theme “From the Biggest Cities to the Smallest Communities” and will emphasize the company’s leadership in innovation that addresses innovative solutions for FTTH deployments in rural, low population density locations, highlighting the importance of developing solutions with lower installation costs as operators and service providers turn their attention to these environments.

Products on display will include Prysmian’s RetractaNetXS end-to-end integrated solution for cost-effective FTTH networks. RetractaNetXS is a complete solution that significantly reduces the cost of home connection of FTTH deployments. It is a fast, flexible, user-friendly cable system that can be installed both underground and overhead, and which allows significant reductions in installation costs.

In addition Prysmian will be highlighting a recent project in The Netherlands where the cost of FTTH installation in suburban and rural homes was brought down by using the existing sewer system. Using this solution avoids the high costs associated with digging and is also significantly faster than traditional direct buried methods. Prysmian’s BendBrightXS - bend insensitive – fibre was used throughout this project within an innovative cable construction designed to withstand the harsh conditions present in the sewer system. The Prysmian’s solution utilised will be showcased on the stand.

Focus will also be on Prysmian’s development of a new range of nano loose tube cables with smaller diameter and increased fibre density, part of the complete nano LT cable family, which allows the introduction of 192 fibres into standard 10/12mm ducts and 96 fibres into standard 8/10 mm ducts. This makes it possible to realise download speeds of 30-40 Mb/s on legacy portions of the network, whilst postponing investments in civil works and ‘last drop’ fibre, which typically spans 300 metres. Operators can invest in phases and decide to upgrade the final portion of the network at a later date.

The Multimedia Solutions (MMS) unit provides cables for every communication need ranging from professional TV Studios, offices, business premises, industry, transport infrastructures and modern buildings, which cover virtually every communications application. Telecom Solutions business operates in the telecommunications sector with a wide range of cable and system solutions addressing the high bandwidth provision needs of major network operators and service providers. The portfolio covers all areas of the market – including long distance, submarine and metro systems – although the area of greatest activity at present is within the ‘last mile’ access networks for which Prysmian has developed the xsNet suite of products and systems which will be on show on the company’s booth and which is also highly suitable for rural deployments of FTTx.
