Draka to supply hi-tech elevator cables for the new World Trade Center

Draka (Prysmian Group) to supply hi-tech elevator cables for the rebuilding of New York City’s World Trade CenterDraka Elevator, a brand of the Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cables andsystems industry, has been selected to provide custom designed elevator cables and accessories bytwo major global OEM elevator companies that are performing the rebuilding of the prestigious WorldTrade Center complex in New York City.Buildings 1 and 4 are now underway. The contracts entail supplying assorted hoistway cables, standard wireway conduit andaccessories, special custom designed wireway conduit and special wire junction/terminal boxes formore than 100 elevators due to be installed. One World Trade Center will reach a height of 1776 feet. Draka Elevator’s cables will be usedto provide power for elevator buttons, communications devices, emergency safety and more. Some ofthe hoistway cables include fibre optic sub-units, which are used for high-speed communicationsthroughout the World Trade Center complex. The cables and wireway products are being manufacturedat Draka Elevator’s Rocky Mount plant in North Carolina. Draka is also providing its Extended Factory Model (EFM) programme as a value-added service,storing a variety of components and materials in a Distribution Centre that delivers just-in-timeall the materials to the customer, for incorporation into their own equipment and shipment to thejobsite. “We are very proud of being part of such an important project.
