Major OGP contracts with SAIPEM for the Middle East
Prysmian Cables & Systems, has signed two major contracts with SAIPEM, a world leading Oil & Gas industry contractor, worth in excess of € 60 million, to supply special cables for applications in the Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals industry.
In detail, the Group will supply a wide range of power, instrumentation and fibre optic cables specially designed for Process Plant and Sulphur Recovery Units for treating natural gas at the “Shah Arab Field” in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and hydrocarbon resistant instrumentation and signalling cables for the BS 171 oil booster station project in Kuwait. The two contracts are worth in excess of € 50 million and € 10 million respectively. The cables will be produced in the Italian plants of Livorno Ferraris (Vercelli), Merlino (Lodi) and Ascoli Piceno, with delivery starting from May 2011.
The Middle East and the companies operating in the oil, petrochemicals and chemicals industry in this Region are strategic for the development of the Group's business in this sector: in fact, Prysmian cable systems have been selected for current high-profile projects such as the QAFCO fertiliser plant in Qatar (the largest in the world), the Borouge polyolefin plant in Abu Dhabi and the LNG 2 plant in Yemen.
Other projects in which Prysmian has been recently involved include some of the most important, strategic and technologically advanced in the industry, such as the Kashagan Oil Field in Kazakhstan, the Seadrill, Petrorig and Hull offshore drilling rigs for Jurong Shipyards and Keppel Fels in Singapore, and the Shell Nanhai petrochemicals complex, in China's Guangdong province.
Prysmian’s portfolio of cable solutions for the oil, petrochemicals and chemicals industry – comprising an offer of complex, integrated systems for power distribution and transmission and for instrumentation and control of chemical, petrochemical and industrial plants – has been recently complemented with the addition of innovative systems with enhanced technical features and reduced environmental impacts such as the Drylam™ and Airguard™ Cable System.
These results reconfirm Prysmian's leadership and the validity of its know-how and technology, as well as its commitment to supporting top OGP players throughout the world with an extensive range of cable systems for offshore and onshore applications, umbilicals and flexible pipes.
