Prysmian to launch a wide information campaign to promote the use of Fire Safety cables during the Light + Building 2010 exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany

Specific regulations for the adoption of standards in the use of safer cables have been defined by  international standard-setting Groups, thanks also to Prysmian’s involvement

Prysmian, a leading global player in the energy and telecom cable industry, will be exhibiting at the Light + Building 2010 event that will take place in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) from April 11 to 16, and will launch a new information campaign to promote the use of fire safety cables in buildings and infrastructures. Prysmian will display its full range of products and services for the Trade and Installers, with the Afumex Plus 1000 cable, the first halogen free cable routable anywhere (outdoor, in–ground, and even in areas with a risk of flooding), representing the latest development in this product portfolio. Prysmian will take the opportunity to promote this product together with the new Fire Safety campaign, showing some of the communication tools developed to support the promotion of this family of cables.

With the aim of growing awareness about building safety among regulators, in the recent years Prysmian, whose experts are involved in all the international standard-setting groups and active in Europacable (the European cable manufacturers Association) has contributed to defining specific regulations for the adoption of standards in the use of safer cables, with the goal of making their use mandatory especially in buildings where safety is most needed.
Prysmian has invested in higher added-value products and has developed a full range of high performance cables, which continue to operate even in the event of fire and have reduced emissions of toxic gas and fumes. To inform and to make aware about the great contribution of cables to improve safety in case of fire, Prysmian has developed and launched a new website dedicated to designers, specifiers, distributors and installers, but also to real estate developers, architects and other professionals as well as to end-users. A key component of building safety, fire safety includes measures to prevent fires or limit their effects. Cables play an important part in the continued operation of safety systems for detection and suppression of fires (e.g. fire alarm systems, sprinklers) and in their own ability to contain and slow the spread of fire (e.g. flame spread, heat release, smoke and gas emission).

Under the claim “Safer Cables to Protect your Greatest Value”, the information campaign addresses decision makers to provide them the correct information about the importance of adopting fire performance cables to protect life and to add value to the buildings they design and construct.
“Prysmian is constantly focused on supporting its customers through the supply of innovative and technologically advanced solutions” – comments Hans Hoegstedt, Standard Product Business Director at Prysmian SpA , “When it comes to fire safety, our aim is to inform National Authorities, Real Estate and electrical professionals about the significance of choosing the safer solution to protect goods and human lives”.

The new area Prysmian created on its website - www.prysmian.com/firesafety – provides with detailed information about cables for fire safety applications.
Parallel local website areas have been developed in France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Turkey and UK. These areas report also reference to local cable range and cables used in relevant Applications. This Fire Safety Area will be extended in the coming months to all Prysmian’s countries websites.
Together with the new website, Prysmian has also developed other new communication tools to deliver correct and complete information regarding fire safety cables. A new information leaflet will be sent to customers and professionals, while Prysmian people will be available to set up dedicated meetings with specialists interested in fire safety.

Prysmian has installed its fire resistant and Afumex (low fire-hazard) cables in several prestigious worldwide locations where fire safety is a very critical requirement like the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Hamburg Airport and, more recently, the Drax Power Station in UK, the largest renewable biomass co-firing project anywhere in the world and the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a historic national monument and one of the best theatres in the world.
