DOING BUSINESS
Prysmian Group has been
awarded a
for
a total value of approximately
80 million for power
transmission system expansion
projects by KAHRAMAA, the
Qatar General Electricity &
Water Corporation.
The contract includes engineering,
procurement, construction,
installation and commissioning
services for extra high voltage
underground cable systems for a
total of 173 km of 220 kV cable and
related network components. The
contract is part of stage 2 of Phase
XI of the Qatar Power Transmission
System Expansion project, aimed at
strengthening the main transmission
networks and at securing power
supplies to the industrial and
residential sectors.
The upgrade also includes the
replacement of an overhead line
with an underground cable system.
The project will call on production
from Gron in France and Livorno
in Italy. Installation of the first
circuits will start in 2014 and
completion is scheduled for 2016.

The Group has been awarded
a
40 million contract by ESB
of Ireland for the “Shannon
River Crossing” project to
provide electricity between
Kilpaddoge and Moneypoint
across the river.
The project involves supply,
installation and commissioning of
a High Voltage Alternate Current
(HVAC) 220 kV power cable double-
circuit connection, comprising 21
km of submarine cable, including
spare lengths and fibre optic
connections, network components
and commissioning services. The
cables will be manufactured in the
Pikkala plant in Finland, one of the
Group’s centres of technological
and manufacturing excellence
for submarine cables. Cable
installation will be performed by

for operations in extremely shallow
waters and offshore wind farm
connections. Project completion is
scheduled for early 2016.
trust in Prysmians’s capabilities to
meet the increasing needs for the
development of new power grids in
Qatar and this strategic region,” said
Antonio Chiantore, General Manager
for Prysmian Group in the Middle
East. Prysmian has already supplied
and installed other sections within
the KAHRAMAA power transmission
grid in Qatar and the new project
once again underlines Prysmian’s
leadership in this strategic region.
