Europacable:
Try life without us

EU Commission
GLOBAL SCENARIO
The election of Mr Battista was
agreed during the latest General
Assembly of the association in
Brussels, in conjunction with the
kick-off of the “Renewable Energy
Week”, in which Europacable
played an integral and visible
role. The scope of Europacable
members covers the full range
of insulated wires and cables,
including energy, industrial, building,
automotive, special application,
metallic and optical fibre data
and telecommunication wires and
cables, as well as winding wires
and medium voltage accessories.
These products are essential for
modern life, as represented by
Europacable’s slogan: “Try life
without us”. Three years into its
re-organisation, Europacable has
considerably increased its presence
in Brussels. It is now strongly
involved in the EU energy, data and
telecommunication debates, with the
European Commission, the European
Parliament and key industry
organisations, such as ENTSO-E,
the European representation of
electricity transmission operators.
The General Assembly of
Europacable re-affirmed the
continuous active involvement of
Prysmian Group in Europacable,
as Philippe Vanhille took over from
Phil Edwards as Chairman of the
Europacable Telecommunications
Board (ETC) until 2016. Antonio
Traversi was appointed Chairman
of Europacable Environmental
Committee (ECOE), managing the
ever-more prominent environmental
issues for the cable industry.
The focus of Valerio Battista’s
presidency at Europacable will be
to further raise the visibility of the
cable industry in Brussels. This has
become even more important now
with the newly elected European
Parliament and the incoming
European Commission under
its new president, Jean-Claude
Juncker. In fact, President Juncker
featured telecoms and energy
infrastructures within his top 3
priorities in his programme speech
before the European Parliament in
Strasbourg earlier this month. This
positioning creates the fundamental
basis for Europacable to leverage
its engagement at EU level in the
coming years.
across Europe will be essential
to enable the integration of the
European energy market and a
cost-effective implementation
of the 2030 climate and energy
framework,” he states.
In telecommunication and data
transmission, Battista sees the need
for “new infrastructures capable
of giving Europe the competitive
edge for the future.” He says that
under his leadership, the mission of
Europacable “is to ensure the cable
industry is heard and listened to
by the European decisions makers,
in order to better understand that
strong and technologically advanced
European cable manufacturing
is crucial for resuming economic
growth across the continent in a
sustainable and enduring fashion.”
