In the telecom business, the Group has secured a contract
from Telecom Argentina to supply and install the passive
optical infrastructure for a new FTTH (Fibre To The Home)
network. The contract involves building a network serving
4,000 homes with an initial connection rate of just under
40%.
Telecom Argentina is currently expanding its broadband
services by deploying a FTTH network utilising GPON
technology that addresses three discreet urban scenarios:
the closed (condominium) environment, individual new
buildings - both of which are considered greenfield - and open
neighbourhood configuration. This project is the first stage
in Telecom Argentina’s master plan to roll out broadband,
mainly in the city of Buenos Aires – across all three urban
scenarios – in response to growing consumer demand for
faster connectivity services.
Telecom Argentina selected Prysmian Group as its preferred
partner in an open tender process which attracted interest
from system suppliers around the world. As a leading global
supplier of FTTH passive technology, Prysmian Group was
recognised as having the necessary products and experience
to fulfil the project requirements.
