VALENCIA
– Prysmian Group
has successfully completed a
turnkey project comprising the
supply of power instrumentation
and control cables for the
newly inaugurated
hydroelectric power plant, Iberdrola’s
largest in Spain and one of the
biggest in Europe. The structure was
built with an investment of
1,200
million by Iberdrola – the Spanish
multinational. It will transform the
small Iberian town of Cortes de
Pallas into one of the main European
centres for power generation
from water mass movement. The
hydroelectric plant will produce a
total of 1.722MW, with a saving of
approximately 2,200,000 tonnes
per year in CO
2
emissions, and will
provide power even when water
supplies are low. “We are very
proud of having contributed to
the realisation of this important
renewable energy project.” says Jordi
Calvo, CEO of Prysmian Group Spain.
RALEIGH, NC, U.S.
The Elevator Business Unit
of Prysmian Group was
awarded the passing of the E3
Program
which means it is now
a member of the Green Suppliers
network. Prysmian worked at
the implementation of the
E3
(economy, energy and environment)
programme together with various
State and federal government
organizations and universities.
The ‘Green Suppliers Network’ is
a network managed by the US
government EPA (Environmental
Protection Agency).
BERLIN
– Prysmian Group
has signed a collaboration
agreement with Skywind GmbH
,
a small but highly innovative
newcomer in the wind turbine
manufacturing industry, based in
Büdelsdorf, northern Germany,
that is setting new standards in the
development of wind turbines using
medium voltage technology. Based
on this brand-new concept, the
power produced by the generator in
the turbine loop is conveyed directly
to a common cluster station. This
transformer converts the power
coming from all turbines to grid
voltage. Among the benefits of this
solution, it eliminates the need for a
converter for each turbine. Skywind
and Prysmian have decided to install
the Windflex solution to withstand
the challenges deriving from
higher voltage ratings, torsion and
tensile strength requirements more
successfully.
LIVERPOOL
– Prysmian fire
resistant cable FP200 Gold
has been installed
into the fire
alarm system for a new student
accommodation block for the
University of Liverpool’s Vine Court
Residences. Simon Hopkins, FP
Product Manager UK, declared:
“FP200 Gold is the perfect choice
whenever a ‘standard’ fire resistant
cable is needed. It is a fire resistant
LV cable with excellent data and
signal transmission characteristics,
which makes it ideal for fire
alarms and emergency lighting
systems.” FP200 Gold complies
with fire alarm standard BS
5839 and the emergency lighting
standard BS 5266 as ‘standard’
fire resistant cable. Also, FP200
Gold has received BASEC and LPCB
approval and includes Prysmian’s
unique, damage-resistant Insudite
insulation.
BARCELONA
– Customised
cable solution for the city
harbour, turnkey project
undertaken at La Sagrera AVE
train station.
Prysmian developed
for Barcelona Harbour a new 1000V
cable solution in the AFUMEX
DUO product range, a low voltage
0.6/1kV cable containing 4 optical
fibres. It is ultra-flexible and allows
power and communications to be
supplied with a single cable. Always
in Barcelona, the High Voltage
Installations & Systems Department
of the Group successfully completed
the first installation of 220kV
transition joints. The turnkey project
was undertaken at La Sagrera AVE
train station in Barcelona, which is a
hub for Spain’s most important high
speed rail line as well as many other
rail lines and the new Line 9 metro
station.
