2019 is expected to see the arrival of a variety of 5G smartphones, with many leading companies, including Huawei and Samsung,  announcing 5G-ready phones.

PRESIDENT OF QUALCOMM

Recently, semiconductor and telecommunications equipment company Qualcomm Incorporated recently unveiled a new generation of mobile phone processor chips, which will be powering 5G smartphones in the United States. “It's very clear to us that 5G is going to have a more profound impact in the industry and is especially important for economic development”, says Qualcomm’s President Cristiano Amon.

Qualcomm has been working on 5G developments for several years inventing new 5G technologies that are ‘pushing, and often redefining, the boundaries of wireless.’ The company’s new Snapdragon 855 chip can connect to 5G wireless data networks with mobile data speeds up to 50 or 100 times faster than current 4G networks. The Snapdragon 855, which will be powering Samsung 5G smartphones, offers support for ‘computer vision’ that can help phones recognize objects and faces, and a new Qualcomm fingerprint sensor that can read users’ fingerprints through phone’s glass screen. In addition to mobile data speeds, the 855 will feature the fourth generation of Qualcomm’s AI engine.

Cristiano Amon has made the following prediction for the middle of 2019: "Every flagship handset – at least when it comes to those running Google's Android software and using Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor – will tap into 5G." Many mobile carriers are eager to sell 5G phones and data plans to recoup the costs of investing in 5G networks.
