29 Prysmian Group has been selected by National Grid Viking Link and Energinet for the development of Viking Link , the first submarine cable connection between the UK and Denmark. The project, worth close to €700 million, includes the turnkey design, and the manufacture and installation of the world’s longest interconnector which features 1,250 km of cable for the submarine route and approximately 135 km of land cable on the UK side. The project will increase access to renewable and sustainable energy sources to more than 1.4 million households, reducing the cost of electricity in the UK and providing additional system reliability. Viking Link represents a turning point for the upgrade of the entire European power transmission grid and confirms Prysmian Group’s undisputed market and technology leadership along with the commitment to ensure all the resources needed to support customers in the transition to a more sustainable and smarter energy scenario. An important milestone was achieved by Prysmian Group in its PowerLink Cable Solutions strategy , which aims to provide comprehensive management solutions for submarine and land cable systems, with the award of a 3-year service level agreement by the Dutch-German grid operator TenneT. Under the contract, the Group will provide reactive maintenance operations for HVAC and HVDC submarine and land assets. The award confirms the Group’s leadership in HVAC and HVDC asset management solutions, proving its experience and expertise. The Group will provide experienced and qualified jointers, advanced equipment and tools for the Prysmian HVDC and HVAC cables operated by TenneT, within a guaranteed time and at pre-agreed rates. Some of the projects included in the service agreement are BorWin2, BorWin3, DolWin3, SylWin1, HelWin1 and HelWin2. The €700 M Viking Link Project to connect Denmark to the UK.
