Prysmian Group’s P-Laser 600 kV cable system for HVDC applications ensures higher electrical performances, lower costs and greater sustainability. It uses an in-house developed thermoplastic material - known as HPTE (High Performance Thermoplastic Elastomer) - that permits more efficient cable production with lower environmental impact than traditional XLPE. Massimo Battaini, Senior Vice President Energy Projects, stated: “This milestone reaches 3.5 GW per bipole, the highest power rating ever, with cost reductions of up to 30% per transmitted MW. Successful testing at 600 kV is further proof of its quality and robustness.”
