Greenhouse gas emissions

Climate Change Ambition

Prysmian Groups climate strategy adopts “science-based” targets aligned with the Paris Agreement climate objectives.

In particular, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) defines the requirements for an effective Net-Zero strategy:

  • reduction of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions to zero, or at least to a residual level consistent with achieving the global or sector targets set in line with the Paris Agreement (1.5°C);
  • neutralisation of any residual and GHG emissions released into the atmosphere.

As part of this initiative, Prysmian has taken the following actions:

  1. definition of a short-term emissions-reduction target;
  2. definition of a long-term emissions-reduction target;
  3. launch of projects for the neutralisation of residual emissions.

Prysmian has Near-Term and Net-Zero Targets approved by SBTi

Near-Term Targets

Prysmian Group commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 47% by 2030 from a 2019 base year. Prysmian Group also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 28% within the same timeframe.

Long-Term Targets

Prysmian Group commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90% by 2035 from a 2019 base year, and to maintain at least 90% absolute reduction through 2050. Prysmian Group also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 90% by 2050 from a 2019 base year.

Overall Net-Zero Target

Prysmian Group commits to reach net-zero GHG emissions across the value chain by 2050.
