Prysmian Sirocco microduct cables offer smallest diameter and highest fibre count

Sirocco HD cables are available in fibre counts from 96 to 552 and conform to international standards for optical and mechanical performance. Prysmian PicoTube technology makes cables up to 20% smaller than previous versions. This makes it possible to install more fibres into congested duct space and enable the use of smaller ducts for new installations, resulting in lower installation costs and the use of less raw materials. In turn, this benefits for both the total cost of network deployment and the environmental footprint.

One of the biggest challenges was being able to make the cable tubes so small without compromising on usability and mechanical and optical performance. The skills and experience of our R&D teams in Slatina and Bishopstoke made this possible. We’ve developed some interesting new learnings and best practices that we can leverage going forward. All of the customers that we have shown the cables have been astonished: ‘How did we manage to make them so small?’ Usually, 288f is the maximum available for these micro duct cables compatible with standard duct sizes of up to 10mm. Now we can achieve up to 552 fibres.”
