Prysmian's Sustainability Scorecard: targets for a greener future

Prysmian's Sustainability Scorecard: targets for a greener future

As the world confronts pressing environmental threats and challenges, the call for sustainability has transcended beyond the realm of individual responsibility. It has become increasingly evident that businesses play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our planet. In the face of climate change, resource depletion, and social inequality, the importance of sustainability has never been more pronounced, and the role of businesses in this fight has never been more crucial.

Sustainability is no longer a mere choice; it is a strategic imperative. Businesses are not only engines of economic growth but also agents of change. They possess the influence, resources, and transformative potential to drive sustainable practices and shape a more equitable and resilient future. By recognizing the interconnectedness between profitability and sustainability, forward-thinking businesses can create positive societal impact while securing long-term success.

Prysmian Group’s Sustainability Scorecard

In line with what stated above, sustainability has always been at the core of Prysmian Group’s activity, whose ambition to become a global leader in terms of sustainability matters has led to the establishment of challenging climate and social objectives that promote the transition towards a low-emissions world and a more equal and inclusive working environment.

In order to establish a credible path to sustainability, Prysmian Group has set specific targets - both short and long-period - so that progress can be monitored constantly. To do so, a Sustainability Scorecard - made of 16 targets - has been created using 2019 as the baseline and considering 2022 as the target year for achieving the established goals.

Prysmian Sustainability Scorecard 2023-2025

With the aim of tracing a sound and transparent path towards sustainability for all stakeholders, from the end of 2022 Prysmian Group has defined a new three-year Scorecard (2023-2025, baseline 2022), focused on measuring the impacts of the Group’s activities on the environment, the economy and people, by applying specific “Impact KPIs”. These KPIs were defined to provide stakeholders with a tangible measure of the impact of the improvements made by the Company, including how they benefit the entire ecosystem and the business in which it operates.

These KPIs were defined after an analysis of:

  • Long-term ambitions of the Group (Social Ambition and Climate Change Ambition);
  • UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
  • GRI Standards;
  • New process for carrying out the Materiality analysis (focused on the external impacts generated by the business).

Beyond environmental considerations, the Sustainability Scorecard followed by Prysmian Group also shows the Business’ efforts in terms of social responsibility. Associating the social ambition with the achievement of environmental objectives represents, in fact, a fundamental element of Prysmian’s sustainability strategy.

“To the Prysmian Group, sustainability represents the responsibility we feel towards both the environment and the society, a feeling that materializes in the desire to tangibly leave a footprint and to ensure that Prysmian, directly and indirectly, provides a better life for the people working for the company, for customers, for suppliers, and for all stakeholders”.
