Prysmian Group at the forefront of the submarine telecommunication cable industry with unique turn-key cable solutions

Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, has secured three major submarine telecom cable system projects in 2019, proving its undisputable return to the submarine telecommunication cable business following the recent acquisition of General Cable.

The first project announced — a submarine telecom cable system to connect the Ula and Yme platforms to the Ergesund landing point in Norway — has been successfully delivered. The contract had been awarded by Tampnet AS and includes the design and supply of submarine telecom fibre optical cables for a total of approximately 280 km and all related accessories.

Recently, Prysmian has also been awarded a contract by SHEFA.net for the development of a submarine telecom cable system to connect the Halfdan and Tyra platforms to the Fanø landing point in Norway. The Group will be responsible for the design and supply of submarine telecom fibre optical cables for a total of approximately 260 km, including all related accessories. Cables are under production and delivery is scheduled by end of April 2020.

Strictly in line with schedule, Prysmian has successfully completed the design and supply phases of 3,550 km of repeaterless fibre optic submarine cables for the Prat project in Chile. The contract was awarded by Gtd Teleductos SA in February 2019. The installation is scheduled to be completed by Q2 2020.

The production facility responsible for manufacturing the cables for the three above-mentioned projects is Prysmian’s state-of-the-art production facility in Nordenham (Germany).

These three important projects confirm Prysmian Group as a preferred partner of choice for submarine telecom cable system projects, thanks to its flawless project execution capability and the ability to meet the sector’s growing demand,” stated Ashutosh Bhargava, Head of Submarine Telecom BU, Prysmian Group.
