Prysmian Group supplies cables for the LOMA BLANCA wind farm in Argentina

Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry has successfully completed the supply of MV cables to the Chinese contractor POWERCHINA, to be used for the cabling of the Loma Blanca I, II, III and VI wind farms in the Province of Chubut, in Argentina, owned by GOLDWIND, one of the largest worldwide wind turbine manufacturers.

The Loma Blanca projects are part of the OBOR (“One Belt, One Road”) initiatives and of both the RenovAr 1.5 and GENREN programmes for the supply of electrical energy coming from renewable sources in Argentina.
The wind farms are located on both sides of national route No. 3 between Puerto Madryn and Trelew. The energy produced by the GOLDWIND HH100 3.2MW turbines is equivalent to supplying about 430,000 homes and will be turned over to the Argentine Interconnection System (S.A.D.I. - Sistema Argentino de Interconexion).
Prysmian supplied a total of 217 km of RETENAX 33 kV aluminium cables. Cables were produced in the Group’s La Rosa factory near Buenos Aires, Argentina and were delivered at the end of January.

“We are very proud to take part in the increasingly strategic transformation of the wind power industry”

Prysmian relies on a 100-years industrial presence in Argentina. Its activity has followed the economic cycles of the country and keeps on providing products and services to the growing markets of energy and telecommunications. This allows the company to be positioned as the largest cable manufacturer in the country and the benchmark as a supplier for renewable projects
This success reconfirms Prysmian’s approach as a 360° partner in the renewable power industry, able to supply from turbine tower and nacelle cables, to inter-array and export cables, installation, project management and up to monitoring systems and solutions. Over the last year the Group has been awarded with several projects like Provence Grand Large, Vineyard Wind, DolWin 5, Hollandse Kust Zuid III & IV and Empire Wind. Recently the Group has also been awarded a global contract for the full year 2020 to supply wind turbine tower and nacelle cables and assemblies by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, world leader in the wind power industry.
