Prysmian Group Spain took part in April in the Girona Intermón Oxfam-Trailwalker, the greatest team challenge in the world organised to support the fight against poverty. The team, comprising six members of staff (four runners and two in support), completed the 100 km race in just 13 hours 10 minutes, almost without stopping, at an average speed of 7.5 km per hour, to achieve an overall ninth place. All members of the teams had to start together, stay together and finish together.
A total of 356 teams took part in this special challenge organised by the charity Intermón Oxfam with the aim of raising €800,000 for charitable work in developing countries. This year saw a 70% increase in participation compared with the previous event, held in 2011. Of this year’s 356 teams, more than half were sponsored by businesses.
Jordi Calvo, CEO Spain, says: “We have combined our passion for sport and running with a good cause, confirming our commitment as Prysmian Group to cooperation and charities that support the fight against poverty. The six-person team is from the Vilanova plant and has represented the company with pride and honour.”
Oxfam Intermòn is the Spanish non-governmental organisation affiliated to the international confederation Oxfam. As part of a wider global movement its mission is to fight with and for disadvantaged populations, with the aim of eradicating poverty and injustice and ensure that all human beings can fully exercise their rights and enjoy a decent life. They are governed by five core values that govern their actions around the world: Justice, Human Dignity, Solidarity, Commitment and Consistency.
The Prysmian Group’s team members were: Jordi Guardià (Cavinova), Josep Castro (Cavinova), Carles Escofet (R&D), Carolina Riera (Control Sales T&I), Miryam Vilageliu (MK-Com) and David Dolz (Cavigel).
