An important success in the first regatta of 2013.

The first race of the year for Prysmian 747 ended yesterday at 18:52, with a second place for the Italian yacht.

Giancarlo Pedote and Sébastien Josse, skipper of the Multi 70 Edmond de Rothschild (Gitana Team), crossed the finish line just 7 minutes after the prototype 800, crewed by Gwenole Gahinet and Grégoire Moul.

The race began with wind speeds of 15 knots, which eased off over the day. Prysmian ITA 747 was in the lead by the time of passing the first mandatory buoy (the Birvideaux lighthouse) but, despite keeping ahead of the other competitors, 10 miles before the finish line it was overtaken by the proto 800 after the wind dropped.

Giancarlo describes this Demi Clé as a useful and enjoyable experience:

"It was a pleasure to sail with Séb and be able to discuss several important points for improvement in a yacht with an innovative hull like Prysmian 747."

The race, whose course was shortened to 54 miles, was postponed one day because of poor weather conditions that could have caused difficulties.

"I think that postponing the departure was a wise decision” – said Giancarlo. “This was the first race for many teams and Saturday’s weather was very challenging. By delaying, the Committee made it possible for everyone to enjoy the race and to arrive in port without any particular damage."

Prysmian 747 will stay in the port of Pornichet for the next few days while awaiting the next race. Giancarlo is already getting ready for the Select 6.50 race, which starts from Pornichet on Saturday 20th April: “This will be a solo regatta and I really want to put into practice what I’ve learned during my winter training".
