Good finishing position even in last race of 2012

04/06/2012 - 02:00 AM

The second and final leg of the Les Sables-Azores-Les Sables race, the last in the 2012 Atlantic Mini 6.50 calendar, drew to a close on 25 August. Prysmian ITA 747 and Giancarlo Pedote were placed 4th in the overall prototypes ranking.

The first leg of the race saw the Prysmian-sponsored yacht reach the city of Horta in 9 days, 11 hours and 29 minutes, earning second place overall, despite the technical problems causing it to lose all wind information 300 miles out from the start.

After repairing the faults and making ready the yacht, Pedote returned to sea on 14 August for the second leg of the race. A combination of additional problems and technical faults affected the skipper's performance, causing the advantage gained over opponents during the first leg to vanish. Prysmian ITA 747 has now been moved to Lorient, where a period of recuperation, reflection, planning and corrections will begin, with the sights still on the ultimate goal.

The next appointment for the Prysmian yacht is the Mini Transat 6.50 crossing in 2013.
