Giancarlo Pedote on the podium of the historic regatta in the Irish Sea

26/01/2012 - 01:00 AM

Giancarlo Pedote, on the prototype yacht Prysmian ITA 747, was placed third in the Mini Fastnet Race 2012, held a few days ago in the Irish Sea. Due to bad weather, Denis Hugues, the race director, shortened the course, which covered 420 miles starting from Douarnenez, passing by Raz de Sein, the Island of Yeu (leaving it to the right), around a buoy opposite La Rochelle and back to Douarnenez, passing to the west of the Chaussée de Sein.

Immediately after the start, the Prysmian sponsored yacht gained the lead position and maintained it for 3/4 of the race despite the main spinnaker’s explosion right at the start of the race. Later a ballast valve began to leak water: according to Pedote "what should have been a weapon to our advantage, became a hindrance because of a technical problem." First in the "protos" were Etienne Bertrand and Julien Pulvé with their “Chasseur de primes”, while the "series" category was won by Mettraux and David with “Teamwork”.

This first-time participation by Giancarlo Pedote in this historic race nonetheless ended in another success for Prysmian ITA 747, following on from the excellent result in the La Trinité-Plymouth race, held in the English Channel last month.

We are now awaiting the upcoming races scheduled in August (Les Sables - Les Açores - Les Sables) and 2013 (TransAt 6.50 from Douarnenez to Guadalupe).
