The Group launches local production of full portfolio of cabling solutions for the Offshore OGP industry in Brazil

Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cables and systems industry, will present its comprehensive range of products and technologies, specifically dedicated to the Oil & Gas industry at Rio Oil & Gas Expo and Conference 2012 that will take place at Riocentro Convention Center in Rio de Janeiro from September 17 to 20 (hall 4, stand # V2).

The showcased range will focus on solutions for offshore applications, which incorporate a comprehensive portfolio of SURF products (Subsea Umbilicals, Risers and Flowlines), both Steel and Thermoplastic Umbilicals as well as flexible pipes for offshore oil and gas extraction. “We have achieved important results and we are about to finalise the ongoing qualification process for 6” flexible pipes, thus taking a significant step forward in our technological cooperation agreement with Petrobras” states José Luiz Dacal Castro, Vice President and Head of Prysmian’s SURF Business Unit.

Complex and integrated power, control and instrumentation cable systems will complement the Group’s range of products on display. The portfolio will include innovative specialties such as Drylam™ and Airguard™ Cable Systems - solutions specifically designed for critical environment - as well as enhanced service loops for top drives, tailor made cable assemblies and accessories. Rio Oil & Gas Expo and Conference is the leading oil and gas industry event in Latin America and since its first edition in 1982 it has contributed to build up Rio de Janeiro's reputation of being the “Brazilian oil capital”. The 2012 edition comes at a time of key developments for Prysmian as the Group is currently launching production of its full portfolio of cabling solutions for the offshore Oil and Gas industry in its Brazil units. “We are ready to face the challenges offered by the Brazilian market by supplying local-to-local with the strong support of our global expertise, track record and reliability” states Fréderic Grosse Vice President and Head of Prysmian’s Oil&Gas Business Unit.

Prysmian Group boast a long-standing tradition of involvement in some of the most important, strategic and technologically advanced projects in the industry, such as the Kashagan Oil Field in Kazakhstan, the Seadrill, Petrorig and Hull offshore drilling rigs for Jurong Shipyards and Keppel Fels in Singapore and the Shell Nanhai petrochemical complex in China. Currently the Group is engaged in the supply of flexible pipes and umbilicals for several Petrobras’ projects.

Thanks to the merger between Prysmian and Draka, the Prysmian Group can leverage an extended geographical presence (more than 50 countries) and, by offering a fully comprehensive portfolio of products and services, can address the fast-changing needs of its customers. The integration with Draka has led to the creation of a new leading player in the cable industry with 16 plants dedicated specifically to cables for the OGP sector. Besides the facilities in Australia, Europe, Malaysia and South America, the Group can rely on two plants in North America, thus broadening the available range of technologies to special Downhole Tubing (DHT) systems and creating interesting cross-selling opportunities to accelerate the business’s expansion in new strategic areas in order to support the leading key players in the global OGP industry such as ENI, SAIPEM, BP, Foster Wheeler, Shell, Petrobras, Petrofac, etc. The next steps in the Group’s strategies are the further strengthening of its position in the OGP sector, in particular by targeting the offshore oil extraction areas in South East Asia, the Gulf of Mexico and Western Africa.
