UK - Prysmian FP cables installed in the fire alarm system of the British F1 circuit
Prysmian FP600S and FP400 fire resistant cables have been installed in the fire alarm system at the world famous Silverstone circuit in Northampton, England.
Silverstone racing circuit unveiled its new multi-million pound pits and paddock complex two months ahead of the British Grand Prix in July 2011 after striking a new 17-year deal to host the race. The British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) owns the circuit and commissioned the upgraded Silverstone 'Wing' at a cost £27m and their president Damon Hill, who was one of five British F1 world champions alongside John Surtees, Sir Jackie Stewart, Nigel Mansell and Jenson Button, attended the opening of the new facility. The pits and paddock complex is a state-of-the-art project which will form the backbone of Silverstone's plans for a 230 hectare world-class motorsport business centre. The three-storey pit complex was designed by Populous, the architects behind London’s 2012 Olympic stadium. The new facility is 390m long and 30m high and officially opened by the BRDC president in chief, His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent, who praised the "dedication" of the club's members.
The installation was completed just in time for the 2011 Formula One Santander British Grand Prix, part of the multi million pound redevelopment of the pit and paddock facility. Electrical work began in May last year and the project reached completion in May 2011. Project Engineer at NG Bailey Building Services, Kevin Dunne explains: "Prysmian was the natural choice for us due to its renowned reputation and FP cable's ease of use during the installation process. When undertaking a high profile project like this, safety is paramount and we were required to select the highest quality cables available to ensure optimum fire protection."
UK FP product manager, Simon Hopkins says "NG Bailey and Prysmian regularly feature in the most significant projects in the UK because we develop the innovative solutions that our clients want. FP products are chosen for their unquestionable performance in the event of fire whilst retaining the ease of installation and quality we are renowned for."
