Prysmian Cables & Systems has secured through its Turkish subsidiary a major multi-million-dollar contract with Petrofac, an international oil & gas facilities service provider. The Group will provide power cables for the development of the South (Gunorta) Yoloten gas field in Turkmenistan, one of the world’s largest. The project is due to be completed in two years’ time.

Prysmian will provide Medium and Low Voltage cables for powering all circuits of the processing plant which, once completed, will produce 10 billion cubic metres of gas per year. The gas produced will be routed through the TAPI (Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan – India) pipeline to fuel the fast-growing economy of India.

Prysmian has been selected as a partner for this important project after completing numerous projects in Turkmenistan in which it successfully demonstrated its highly reliable level of service and ability to satisfy large orders. Other deciding factors were the suitability of its products to the particular environmental conditions and the overall competitiveness of its products and services.

All the cables will be manufactured at the Mudanya plant, in the Turkish province of Bursa, which is becoming a specialised hub in the production of Oil & Gas industry cables, also thanks to the recent enlargement of its range to include Instrumentation and Control cables. Turkey supplies cables to projects around the world, principally in Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.

This important new win, together with the contracts recently signed with SAIPEM for major projects in the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, further strengthen Prysmian’s market position in the Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals (OGP) industry and reaffirm the high competitiveness of its know-how and technology, as well as its commitment to supporting top OGP players throughout the world with an extensive range of cables and systems for offshore and onshore applications, umbilical cables and flexible pipes. Prysmian’s portfolio of cable solutions for the OGP industry – comprising an offer of complex, integrated systems for power distribution and transmission and for instrumentation and control of industrial plants – has been recently complemented with the addition of innovative systems with enhanced technical features and reduced environmental impacts such as the Drylam™ and Airguard™ Cable System.

Other projects in which Prysmian has been recently involved include some of the most important, strategic and technologically advanced developments in the industry, such as the Kashagan Oil Field in Kazakhstan, the Seadrill, Petrorig and Hull offshore drilling rigs for Jurong Shipyards and Keppel Fels in Singapore, and the Shell Nanhai petrochemicals complex, in China's Guangdong province.
