Prysmian and Giancarlo Pedote: a new challenge across the Mediterranean

15/12/2010 - 01:00 AM

Prysmian – worldwide leading player in the industry of energy and telecommunication cables – and Giancarlo Pedote are ready to sail for a new challenge, after the successful outcome of the Mini Transat 6.50 Ocean Race (4th place) in 2009.

The 2010 challenge will see the 1975 Florentine-born skipper on board the new Prysmian 72 boat (Figaro 2 class) sailing across the Mediterranean, from France to Turkey in the “WOW Cap Istanbul 2010” regatta.

Challenges at sea are part of Prysmian’s daily business as worlwide leader in the industry of submarine power transmission interconnections. Now, with Pedote, Prysmian is facing again a new challenge to win at sea not only in business.

The “Cap Istanbul” is a 1590 nautical miles off-shore solo race for Figaro Bénétau 2 boats (10.15 m) that involves four Mediterranean countries (France, Italy, Greece and Turkey), along a route that is unanimously acknowledged as particularly challenging, mostly because of unpredictable weather conditions.

The race starts on September 19 from Hyères and will end in Istanbul on October 16.
