Prysmian to showcase FTTH at CeBIT

Prysmian to exhibit its latest optical fibre solutions targetted specifically at the rapidly growing 'last mile' sector of the market.

Milan, Italy   -   02/03/2006 - 12:00 AM

Prysmian Telecom Cables & Systems will be exhibiting its latest optical fibre solutions targetted specifically at the rapidly growing 'last mile' sector of the market in next week's CeBIT exhibition - Hannover, Germany from March 9th to 15th.

The growth in demand for high speed broadband services to both the domestic and business user has resulted in a need for operators and service providers to significantly upgrade their networks. With new broadband connections worldwide currently being added at a rate of around 5 million per month the need to provide the information carrying infrastructure to support this vast amount of data is paramount.  The proportion of these connections being made via optical fibre is steadily growing and Prysmian has therefore developed a suite of products which addresses these infrastructure requirements.

The heart of the Prysmian offering is the Sirocco Blown Fibre System which will be demonstrated on the Prysmian stand throughout the 7 day event. Supporting this will be a range of alternative cabling solutions together with the various connectivity products which have been developed to complete the passive system offering. Latest updates on optical fibre technology will also be available including information on PrimaLight, Prysmian's new 200 micron fibre together with all other fibre types in Prysmian's comprehensive range.

Marketing Director at Prysmain Cables & Systems, Richard Thomas says "The timing of the CeBIT event is ideal for us. It provides another opportunity to introduce the Prysmian brand to the market - following our transition from Pirelli - at a time when interest in Fibre to the Home (FTTH) is gathering significant momentum in Europe. We expect the next 12 months to bring with it a major increase in last mile fibre deployments both in Europe and elsewhere in the world ".

Visitors to CeBIT will also be able to see Prysmian's new range of enhanced xDSL cables which have been developed to support the traditional copper based systems which still provide a significant proportion of today's broadband services.
