Western HVDC Link
The Western HVDC Link, connecting the Scottish and the English power grids, sets a record in terms of voltage (600 kV) and has a currently unmatched transmission capacity for long-haul systems of 2200 MW. The new state-of-the art HVDC submarine cable link is strategic for the UK, allowing power transmission from renewable sources in Scotland to consumption centres in England.
Trans Bay Cable
The TBC (Trans Bay Cable) project is of strategic importance for the development of the San Francisco Bay area where the demand for power is constantly increasing. We also recently commissioned the Neptune cable in the New York area, confirming our worldwide leadership in the submarine power link sector.
Prysmian handed over the Neptune submarine transmission cable between New Jersey and Long Island. Implemented by a consortium of Prysmian and Siemens, the link is now operational after a successful trial period for the benefit of the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) and its ratepayers.
Hudson Transmission Project
Within an initiative that will take power for 660 MW to the heart of Manhattan, Prysmian has been awarded a contract worth in excess of $ 175 million by Hudson Transmission Partners, LLC, to supply a new strategic underground and submarine power link between New York City and the New Jersey transmission grid as part of a larger contract awarded to the consortium of Prysmian and Siemens Energy.
Prysmian has been awarded a project worth more than € 250 million by the Dutch-German grid operator TenneT for the connection project SylWin1, linking offshore wind farms in the North Sea to mainland Germany. The project sets new technological milestones reaching 864 MW of power rating and 320 kV DC voltage.
Projects in the Oil & Gas Industry
Prysmian has signed a Letter of Intent with affiliates of Norsk Hydro and Anadarko Petroleum Corporation for supply of subsea power and communication umbilicals for the Peregrino development. The project is being developed by Norsk Hydro and Anadarko and is located offshore Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Reaching more than half a kilometre into the sky, the £ 500 m Burj Dubai Tower is not only the world’s tallest tower, it is currently the first Dubai development to specify Prysmian FP Plus Flex enhanced fire performance cable in accordance with UK standard requirements of BS5839-1:2002.
Prysmian achieved another important result in the strategic and high value added sector of Fire Performance cables (FP). The Company has been awarded a prestigious contract for the supply and installation of high performance cables, including fire-resistant cables and low-smoke, zero-halogen cables (LS0H), to ensure spectator safety in Wimbledon’s new Centre Court.
Marina Bay Sands
Singapore initiated the construction of the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort to enhance its status as one of the world’s greatest travel destinations and to promote tourism. The Marina Bay Sands is a casino-based vacation resort, developed by one of the world’s gaming companies, Las Vegas Sands.
“Oasis of the Seas”, built by the international shipbuilding group STX Europe for Royal Caribbean Cruises L.td., is the largest and most revolutionary cruise liner in history, Prysmian has been the only supplier of approximately 5,000 km of energy and telecommunications shipboard cables.
Prysmian has been awarded a major contract by the Australian Government-owned NBN Co Limited for the supply of fibre optic cables for the development of the new national broadband network. The total value of the contract, which has been secured by Prysmian Telecom Cables & Systems Australia Pty Limited, is up to € 223 million (AUD 300 million) over five years, with an initial purchase order of € 112 million (AUD 150 million).
